Featured Birch | Academy Student, Devyn Matheson

Devyn joined our academy in fall 2025, and can now be found on our hair floor assisting and practicing alongside her school work. She brings a calm, grounded energy that we adore having and it is fun watching her skill set grow! She had previously studied makeup before going through the hair program with us.

How did you get started in the industry? Tell us about your competition / creative work!

I am brand new to the industry and I’ve always loved playing with hair.

What brought you to Revelstoke, BC?

I moved to Revy from Canmore with a room available in a friend’s house.

What do you love about your job?

I love the people I get to work with and the environment that Birch & Lace creates.

Favourite service to offer?

So far I really enjoy doing long layers and I recently learned how to cut a Bixie and LOVED it!

What are your predictions for hair/makeup in 2026? What would you love to see more of in your day?

I predict for style trends that it is going to become even more natural than it already has gotten. No makeup makeup for realll!

What are your favourite products currently, and why?

I have been loving the tanning water by See You Sundae for myself. On guests I have been enjoying the Hair Primer by Davines and occasionally OI Oil, also by Davines.

Top ice cream flavour?

I am not an ice cream fan. BIIIGGG fan of popcorn though. If I had to choose ice cream, mango sorbet.

What do you love doing in your spare time?

I love skiing and crafting in my spare time.

I have been watching The Pitt

Tell us something that may surprise people?

I used to be a figure skater from age 5-14.
