BIRCH & LACE WAS FOUNDED ON MY DREAM TO INTERTWINE THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY WITH ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY. Our mission begins with waste diversion. Hair is traditionally sent to landfills where it is left to rot & produce methane and chemicals are generally washed down the drain into our water systems. At Birch & Lace we participate in a program called Green Circle Salons, allowing us & you to take full responsibility for the waste created. A small eco fee of $3.00 is added to each ticket which helps us fund our waste diversion program and continuously improve our energy efficiency. What happens to the waste? · Hair clippings get composted with other organic waste, turned into bio-composite plastic, and used to research & develop new environmental technology like insulation and stormwater filtration. · Chemical waste is separated into oil & water - the water is treated and returned into the water system and the oil is blended into fuel. · Metals are sorted by grade & type, melted down into aluminum bars or sheets, and used to make new products like car parts or bicycles. · Single use items from our spa are used in a waste-to-energy process to create clean renewable energy, and the leftover ash can be used as filler in asphalt. · Plastics are sorted by grade & type, cleaned, ground into small pieces, and used to make packaging like shampoo bottles. Product ingredients, and progressive companies with integrity are imperative to our vision. Our skin is our largest organ readily absorbing all it is exposed to. We strive to choose the safest, cleanest products that exemplify environmental dedication.
